Light grey cloth hardcovers with spine decorated and lettered in black and with dark grey falcon on the front board. 267 pp. plus Hammett biographical sketch verso of the final text leaf. A solidly very good example, ownership signature front pastedown and with the plot description blurb from the jacket affixed to the front free endpaper. Foirmerly in possession of a company library with their ownership stamp top edge of the rear pastedown; faint evidence of pencil notations also on the rear pastedown. Obviously, no dust jacket. A high spot in 20th century detective/noir fiction featuring Los Angeles private eye Sam Spade. Basis of the iconic film starring Humphrey Bogart as Spade, Mary Astor as the femme fatale, Sidney Greenstreet as the villian and Peter Lorre as the creepy co-villan.
