Baseball In New Jersey; The Game Of History

Trenton: New Jersey State Museum, 1995. First edition. Softcover. Oversized in illustrated softcovers. 84 pp. with index. Illustrated with vintage photographs. Very good. Scarce monograph on the history of baseball in the Garden State; it was issued as a companion to the exhibition of the same name at the New Jersey State Museum in 1995 (there was no generally released trade edition). Cunningham traces the game from its very beginnings (the first recorded game was played in Hoboken in 1846), the organization of the Nassau Base Ball Club in 1860 by visiting "amateur" players from Brooklyn, into the professional period after 1869, the minor league years of the Newark team, sandlot and industrial teams, and so on, forward to the advent of the current AA minor leage Trenton team. The book is notable for many of the photographic images which are particularly scarce. Very Good. Item #GE22794
