Patriotic Order Sons of America, 1930. Softcover. 24mo. in salmon colored printed wrappers. 108 pp. with index. Very good, front wrap has ownership name along top egde and a small stain top right corner. Interior clean and bright. The Patriotic Order Sons of America is one of the oldest surviving continuous fraternal/political organizations in the United States. It was founded in 1847 ostensibly to preserve the public school system and protect the Constitution but was essentially an anti-immigrant (particularly the Irish) and anti- Catholic group. Founded in Philadelphia, it emerged in response to the immigration riots of 1845-46, was open to white males between the ages of 16 and 21, born in the United States; it was simiiar to the Know-Nothing Party. The groug was eventually in corporated in Pennsylvania in1867. Though similar to the Masons in some ritualistic matters, it is not affiliated with the Masonic order. by 1900, the group began to assist in the preserveation of various historical sites such as Washington's camp at Valley Forge and the Betsey Ross House in Philadelphjia.
