Nicholson/ from her friend Joseph Sampson, Esq." 460 pp. This edition bears only the date of 1855 on the title and copyright pages (the first printing of this work was 1818). Spine faded and chipped at the extremities, some fade to the edges of the boards. Interior bright and fresh. The Massachusetts-born Rev. Ezra Sampson (1749-1828) was a Yale graduate (1778) and chaplain of militia in Roxbury for twenty years. He later became editior for the Connecticut Courant and in his lifetime published a number of works on patriotism and religion. His son Joseph (1794-1872), who inscribed this copy of his father's book, pursued a career in business and was one of the founders of Chemical Bank in 1823. Later in liufe he was a director of New York Life Insurance Company, the Commerce Bank, and the New York Gas Light Company. Very Good. Item #E22928
