Presumed first edition. 122 pp. Frontispiece portrait engraviong of Smith, tissue guard. Two plates (one in color) and a manuscript facsimile. The Memorial Sermon preached by Rev. Alfred Lee is included in the latter part of the book. Appendices inclue a memorial biographical sketch (Smith died in February, 1884), transcriptions of letters and newspaper articles. Very good, silver stamping bright, some wear at the extremities and a bit of light spotting. Smith, who wrote this reminiscence during his eighth decade, recalls his early years during which he entered the shipping business, traveling to ports around the globe; he eventually inherited his family's shipping business. A devout Episcopalian, he was instrumental in founding Calvary Church in Rockdale, Pennsylvania. Very Good. Item #E22783
