In examining letters, diaries and memoirs, one could easily assume that in the American Civil War, there was no sex. But of course there was. The author used the few rare original documents that still exist about the subject and adroitly interprets official sources. Men in uniform could purchase pornographic books in the size and shape of Bibles through the mail; they sang bawdy songs around campfires and told dirty jokes and recited off color poems. And of course, there were prostitutes virtually everywhere groups of soldiers gathers. Fine Hardcover 9780811715157 (Item ID: E22335)
