Circle of Friends

Delacorte Press, 1991. First American edition first American edition. A fine, bright copy in equally fine dust jacket. Hardcover in light blue paper covered boards over white cloth spine. 565 pp. The author's most famous and favorite book, a novel that portrays the friendship and coming of age of two unusal young Irish women in the 1950s. Set in the small village of Knockglen and later in Dublin, it features Benny Hogan, "a great horse of a girl" and daughter of a shopkeeper and wiry, hot tempered Eve Malone who spots goings-on from her small convent room. Basis for the charming, poignant 1995 movie that introduced Minnie Driver in the role of Benny. Actually quite difficult to find in such fine condition.
