First edition First edition, so stated on the verso of the half-title with the date of 1928 and the four branches of the publisher-- Berlin, Moscow, Vienna, Zurich. Red cloth covers limp boards stamped in gilt. Advertising endpapers+11 pp. of adverts. LXXXVII+ 841 pp. + an additional ten pages of adverts at rear. Eight folding maps plus additional maps integral. Two silk page markers. Believed to be the first such guide book intended for the foreign audience to be issued on the USSR, which had been established just seven years earlier. As with the more widely know Baedeker guides, contains general information on the economy, labor, culture, education, the Russian alphabet, monetary units, railways, post, telephone, telegraph and radio. The remainer of the guide gives detailed information on the various sub-republics and regions and the cities therein: Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic (RSFSR) ( Northern Russia; Volga Region; Northcaucasia; The Crimea; Ural; Siberia; Far East; Kasakstan); Ukranian Socialist Soviet Republic (Ulraine, Kiev, Odessa); White Russian Socialist Soviet Republic (Minsk, Riga, etc); Trans-Caucasian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic (Azerbaidjan, Georgia, Arminia, Uzbekistan); Turkoman Soviet Socialist Republic. Very good, generally rubbed but internally inract and clean, small nick to the front gutter. There is a 1930 ownership signature on the frost pastedown and on the half-title page an extensive signed inscription in Russian. Very Good Hardcover (Item ID: E21875)
