Newark, NJ: Martin R. Dennis & Co., 1879. First. Hard Cover. First edition. INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR ON THE FRONT FREE ENDPAPER: "ISAAC S. CRAMER/ SERGEANTSVILLE N.J./ PRESENTED BY/ STEPHEN WICKES M.D./ ORANGE N.J./ MAY 26TH 1879". Dark brown cloth with spine lined and lettered in gilt; 449 pps. with index. Scarce and important history of the medical practice in New Jersey from the earliest days of Dutch and English settlement in the 1600s, through the colonial period, the American Revolution and the firts decades of the new Republic. The second (and largest) part of the book is comprised of biographical sketches of New Jersey physicians to the year 1800. These sketches give birth, marriage and death dates when known, professional affiliations, location of practices, details of military affiliations, occasional anecdotes, etc. This is a tight, clean example with spine gilt still bright and some small faults to the head and foot edges of the spine. Couple of very small adhesion spots front endpapers and a 1930s vintage prev. owners bookplate front pastedown. A very desirable example of a scarce work. Item #E2171
