This reissue of the 1970 original book was issued in conjunction with the HBO original movie starring Halle Berre as Dandridge. Dorothy Dandridge (1922-1965) was a singer and dancer who performed in such famed locales as the Apollo Theater and the Cotton Club; as an actress she was nominated for a Leading Actress Oscar in 1954 for "Carmen Jones" and for a Golden Globe for "Porgy and Bess".
