The verso of the half-title page bears the stamped message "With the good wishes and high esteem of" and then the signature "James R. Cameron". Hardcover, 393 pp. with front endpaper adverts including an illustrated one for incandescent "Klieglights"; adverts are also interspersed at rear in the index. Illustrated with photographs, diagrams and drawings. Very good, The name of the person to whom the book was presented is stamped in gilt lettering at the lower right corner of the front cover and this indivual (one Joseph E. Bliven") has also inscribed a "Property of" signature on the front pastedown and the inner margin of the title page. A seminal work on the pairing of sound recordings with motion pictures intended for the makers of these films. From the foreword: "The success of sound pictures rests with you. The newest marvel of the era offers to you, who actually convey the audible screen entertainment to theater patrons, a challenge; your response will...determine public acceptance of sound-on-film...". Quite technical in nature, this work contains sections on telephony and telegraphy, the photo-electric cell, studio technique, the RCA Photophone and Photophone projection, Fox-Case Movietone, the Cinephone, Samson and Western Electric amlifiers, etc. Quite scarce in the original edition.
