About very good, firm in its binding and with some rounding and wear at the extremities, contemporary ownershjip signature on second front blank and again on each of the two rear blanks. There also is an old ownership name stamp at the center of the title page. A history of Algiers, its inhabitants, culture, etc, but the first four chapters are concerned with military matters with chapter IV dealing with the depredations of pirates from Algiers and Tripoli on American commerce, including the capture of 11 United States ships and enslavement of their crews. The frontispiece folding plate is usually absent , possibly due to the fact it depicts the torture method of bastinating. Very Good. Item #E19509
