Hardcover in maroon cloth lettered in gilt. xx+ 236 pp. A tight, near fine example, gilt lettering bright, touch bumped at the spine extremities. Ownership initials and date "Feb 99" top corner of title page and vintage bookplate front pastedown. Tipped in between the title page and the first contents page is a 14 page manuscript (in English) of notes and commnets on the sections of the work. Gustave Le Bon (1841-1931) became a medical doctor in 1866 and also was a physicist but by the the 1890s devoted his studies and writing to psychology and sociology and authored a seminal work on crowd psychology. His work influenced such widely disparate individuals as Theodore Roosevelt, Lenin, Hitler and Mussolini. Item #E19104
