A fine copy of Kenneth Guthrie's annotated manuscript, bound in pebble-grained cloth boards with patterned endpapers, with the title and roman numeral IV in gilt on the spine. This is likely the fourth volume of a personally bound set of Guthrie's manuscripts, now separated. The manuscript is complete, consisting of all "Nine Heavens," (approximately 250 pages), each of which is separately paginated, with a divisional title page, and dated with an ink stamp from 1918 to 1919. The annotations and corrections are in pencil and ink. The finished book was published in 1926 by the Platonist Press in New York, with the extended subtitle "... embodying Dionysius the Areopagite's ninefold celestial hierarchy, a vision of judgment and heaven, an evocation of the historic lawgivers, the reincarnatory career of a famous soul, a passage through hell, purgatory & heaven and the mystery of the twenty-four elders."
