Baltimore: Printed at The Publication nRooms, 1849. First edition First edition. Small 8vo in blindstamped cloth with spine lettered and decorated in gilt. 264 pp. with contents at rear. Very good, spine and edge fade to the cloth though the spine gilt is still very clear. Faint tidemarking to the final few leaves; scatterd foxing to the text. Mrs Elizabeth Washington Foote Cheves was a native of eastern Virginia between the Blue Ridge and the Potomac, and her volume of sketches presents a brief history of herself and her family. The family, particularly her aunt, were intimates of George Washington. The volume is dedicated to President Zachary Taylor, a letter of whose to Mrs. Cheves is reproduced in the book.
