CONDITION :NOTE WELL: well worn at the tips and spine extremities, some rubbing about the edges and gutters off the cloth hardcover; some occasional spotting to the covers; very shallow edge wear to the first two leaves of the text block, offsetting to the title and facing pages from now absent newspaper clippings. Large octavo sized (7" x 9") hardcover in maroon cloth lettered and decorated in gilt. Advert endpapers front and rear, 241 pp. including 6 pp. of adverts at rear. Frontispiece photographic team portrait of the 1897 team; numerous photographic illustrations including full page team photo of the 1874 Boston Red Stockings in umiforms with A.G. Spalding, Harry and George Wright, Jim O'Rourke, Cal McVey, Ross Barnes, etc; the 1875 team in suits, 1877 and 1878 composite team photos, 1883 team, photo of front and back of the check issued for the release of Mike "King" Kelly, other team images, individual ful figue in uniform portraits of the players on the 1897 team including future Hall of Famers Kid Nichols, Hugh Duffy, Jimmy Collins, Billy Hamilton; club officials. The Boston Baseball Club was an original member of the National Association , organized baseball's first professional league, finishing first in four of the five years of the league's existence. Most of the top players from the legendary 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings joined Boston when the Cincinnati team disbanded after the 1870 season.
