Frontispiece engraving "Christmas Eve" of a decorated and candle-lit Christmas tree surrounded by children, a mother, toys and containers of decorations. An extremely early American depiction of a decorated family Christmas tree. The author's introduction states that this book was inspired by his childhood recollections of Christmastime storytelling although the book itself is actually ancedotal tales of the coming to America of German and Dutch immigrants. Good only, sizable dark stain lower portion of the front cloth, some loss to the foot of the spine and a couple chips to the head. Tidemarking to the lower portion of most of the leaves.
