NY: Cassell, 1890. First First edition. Red cloth with gilt totem pole design and blue cloth lettered in red; top edge gilt. Profusely illustrated with photographs (some are color tinted) by the author and drawings reproduced by the American Bank Note Company. Folding panoramic of Muir Glacier recto of the frontispiece photograph of the author; color full page map tipped in as the final leaf. A major title by one of the intrepid woman travelers of the Victorian period and one of the very few to visit Alaska in the 19th century. A beautifully produced as well as an important book. Light even soiling to the front and spine cloth, all gilt still bright. Front board a bit bowed and a splash-stain to the rear blue cloth portion. Very Good Cloth (Item ID: A794)
