The story of Clara Louise Maass who won her nursing pin and cap in 1895 at the old Newark German Hosptial in New Jersey. Three years later she wa shead nurse at the institution, leaving in 1901 to help yellow fever victims in Cuba and in an attempt to further the research into the disease, volunteered to be bitten by mosquitoes. She was infected and died later that year at age 24. The second portion of the book traces the history of the hospital in which she first worked, which changed its name in WWI ot Newark Memorial and later to Lutheran Memorial Hospital, then finally to The Clara Maass Memorial Hospital. fine / fine.
