Slim 12mo in blindstamped green cloth hardcovers, spine lettered in gilt. 128 pp. plus 8 pp. publisher's catalog at rear. A tight, internally bright example, two tiny slits to the spine cloth and a tiny chip head of spine. Very scarce in an original edition. Diogo Antonio Feijo (1784-1843) was a Catholic bishop and Brazilian political figure. He urged the abolition of forced celebacy of Catholic priests, arguing that temporal authorities of the early church determined and imposed it and that it was not a divine institution. Involved in secular political endeavors more than in church matters, Feijo was served as Regent of the Brazilian Empire for two years 1835-7. Near Fine. Item #ZE17238
