Original printed wrappers. vi+ (2) + 190 pp. with index+ 6 engraved full page plates with explanations+ 6 additional folding plates (map of the course of the Mohawk River, plate of geologic formations, map of the area in which the mastodon giganteus was discovers, , large folding chart, plate of mastodon skeleton in situ, mastodon skeleton reassembled). The first separate printing of this important report of the Regents of the Sate University of New York that was originally transmitted to the legislature in April, 1868. The most important section is the "Notes and Observations on the Cohoes Mastadon" by James Hall, with accompanying plates and maps. Also covered in the report: "The Stone and Bone Implements of the Arickarees" and "Lauerntian Limestones of North America". Wraps are well chipped and spine strip no longer present but the text and plates are tight and clean.Enclosed in a hardcover folder, navy blue cloth over hubbed royal blue leather, scuffing to the leather hubs and with hand printed labels on the spine.
