George Whelan Anderson graduated the U.S. Naval Academy in 1930, was a naval aviator ,served in WWII as navigator aboard the Yorktown and later as Commanding Officer of the Mindoro and the Franklin D. Roosevelt. He served as Chief of Naval Operations during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 but a contentious and very public spat with Defense Secretary Robert McNamara forced Anderson toretire in 1963. Fine.
