In the introduction by the American editor, Howitt is described as "A Quaker post" and the book as one of "condensation (that) comprises a great variety of historical facts, all brought, as a resistless battery, to storm the citadel of English Priestcraft..." A rather tired copy, 1/2" chip at the head of the spine, spine label darkened, two early ownership sigs. front free endpaper (one dated 1846), scattered foxing and some stains in the text.
