Scarce history of theatre in Philadelphia during the first thee and a half decades of the 19th century. The work, which contains mostly raw data, is divided into four parts: an extensive general introduction covering the history of the Philadelphia stage during the period; the text of the hitherto unpublished diary or daily account book kept by William Burke Wood, co-manager of "Old Drury" (the nickname given the Chestnut Street Theatre; 3) prefaces to the records of each of the 71 seasons of which Wood's account book is composed; indexes to the plays and players mentioned in the account book. Very good, some spotting to the outer edges of the covers (more so on raer than front), spine lettereing dulled. No dust jacket (noe issued?). Item #E5090
