The work, which contains mostly raw data, is divided into four parts: an extensive general introduction covering the history of the Philadelphia stage during the period; the text of the hitherto unpublished diary or daily account book kept by William Burke Wood, co-manager of "Old Drury" (the nickname given the Chestnut Street Theatre; 3) prefaces to the records of each of the 71 seasons of which Wood's account book is composed; indexes to the plays and players mentioned in the account book.
