GE 210 System Manual
Phoenix, AZ: General Electric Computer Department, 1960. Staple bound in still wrappers. In fine, bright, essentially as new, unused condition. 46 pp. + 6 pp. of appendixes. Illustrated with photographs and diagrams. Scarce in any condition, almost impossible to find in this fine condition. The GE210 was a "fully integrated, general purpose digital computer system developed for business date processing". The 20-bit system was designed by a team including Arnold Spielberg (who was the father of film director Steven Spielberg) and Homer "Barney" Oldfield and pioneered Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR). It has the ability to handle alpha and numeric date using magnetic tape, 80-column punched cards, paper tape and printers. GE produced approximately 225 of these systems retailing at around $225,000 each between 1960 and 1964. It's main use was revolutionary for the banking system which used it for processing checks; it could also be used for general bookkeeping. This, the 1960 book, was the first full manual for the GE210, being preceded only by a 195911-page promotional booklet. Item #E37062
