Unfortunately also with unrelated gift inscription lower on the front free endpaper. Hardcover in black cloth with spine lettered in silver. No statement of edition on copyright page therefore not a first; code "P10" on p. 311. Fine in very good dust jacket with modest wear at the extremities and a small light droplet stain lower part of the "J" in the title; the unclipped price top corner of the front flap was obscured but the correct $6.95 can still be seen. Benchley's second book and first novel, the iconic terror tale of a killer shark off the coast of New England. Basis for the Oscar nominated 1975 movie that scared everybody out of the water that summer, starring Roy Schneider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfus.
