The Old Man's Boy Grows Older

New York: Holt, Rinehart & Winston, 1961. First edition. Hardcover. First edition stated. Hardcover in brown cloth stamped in silver and tan. 302 pp. Illustrated with line drawings by Walter Dower. Fine, presentation bookplate "For a Sportsman's Library from Winchester-Western and Filed and Stream 1961". In very good dust jacket, modest wear to the extremities and a mere hint of embrowning to the spine. The sequel to Robert Ruarks beloved 1957 best seller "The Old Man and The Boy", "a tale of warmth and wisdom, love and understanding". it told of The Boy (Ruark himself) and the Old Man (his grandfather) as they roamed the North Carolina outdoors. In this book, the Old Man is now gone from the earth but not from the memory of the Boy, who is now grown up to new adventures, to college, to a seaman's berth on the North Atlantic freighter, to African safaris and treks to the world's far corners. Now other dogs and boys follow him but the Old Man is still there--in anecdotal memories awakened by the sight of a tiger in Africa, a dog in Spain, or the fragrance of a meal prepared outdoors over an open fire. Fine / very good. Item #E35993
