Elias Boudinot (1740-1821) was a lawyer, statesman, American Founding Father, and was an early advocate for abolition and for women's rights. During the War for Independence, Boudinot was an intelligence officer and worked under Washington as prisoner-of-war commissary who strove to improve conditions for prisoners of both sides. He was elected to the Continental Congress in 1779 and after that body changed to the Confederation Congress (in 1781) was its President in 1782-1783 at the conclusion of the war. He was elected to the first, second and third Congresses after the ratification of the Constitution and later served as Director of the United States Mint though 1805 (he was identified as such on the title page of "The Age of Revelation"). A devout Presbyterian, Boudinot authorized publication of this work in 1801; it was a refutation of Thomas Paine's controversial "Age Of Reason" Good. Item #E35123
