Screams

Sausalito, CA: The Post-Apollo Press, 1995. Reissue. Softcover. Fine and fresh with a very faint crease to front cover. Reissue of 1953 publication. Softcover. 50 pp. The English language translation of the extremely scarce first book of poetry by Joyce Mansour (1928-1986), Jewish-Egyptian surrealist poet who caused controversy with her mixture of erotic and religious imagery in the 1950s. A close friend of Andre Breton and wife of a wealthy Cairo banker, Mansour began writing her poetry in French after coming into contact with Parisian surrealism. Her work was largely ignored outside of Surrealist circles, and even there was only accepted due to Breton's influence. Fine. Item #E34235
