Spine lettered and decorated in gilt. 428 pp. Tight, very good copy, some rounding to the corners and a bit of rubbing to the spine edges, foxing to some of the interior pages. Collection of uplifting essays, articles (including one on Martha Washington with a steel engraved portrait of the young Martha), poems, musical selections. Graced with full page steel engravings ("The Student", 'Woman" "The Evening Walk' etc) and hand-colored engravings of flowers such as Heart's Ease, China Flower, Isabella Grapes, Century Plant, Crown Imperial, Prairie Flower, East India Althea, The Bouquet, China Rose, The Barberry, Frost Gage. PLEASE NOTE: The pagination of the text is incorrectly sequenced--the hand-colored flower plates and steel engravings are all present but do not necessarily correspond to the index.
