It was in 1882 that a consotium of Duluthians set up a company to take advantage of the feasibility of Edison's theory that electricity could power parts of cities. By the 1920s' six majpr electric utilities and several local power companies were operating in the area that would cover Minnesota Power's area and in 1923, these were consolidated into the Minnesota Power and Light Company. Electric power changed the lives of persons living in those areas and twice nourished the transformation of the region's mining industry--from steam and muscle to electric power. Fine / fine.
