The story of Major Richard I. Bong (1920-1945), a Wisconsin boy who, flying Lockheed P-38s for the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, became America's top flying ace, credited with shooting down 40 Japanese planes over the South Pacific. Bong received the Medal of Honor in 1944. He died shortly before the war ended while test flying a P-80 Shooting Star in California. a significant part of the book is made up of letters Bong wrote home to his mother. Fine / good.
