Top edge gilt. x+ 246 pp.+ 10-page illustrated publisher's catalogue printed on glossy stock. With a remarkable 100 full page color plates , one on each facing page and with a captioned tissue guard, each featuring a color painting of a child or young person representative of their country of origin. On the verso of the half-titile is the statement, "The illustrations in this volume were engraved and printed at the Menpes Press under the superintendence of the artist." A truly lovely volume (for which the publisher Charles Black was noted) celebrating the children of countries around the world, from the British Isles (English, Scottish, Irish), Canada, Australia, America, European (including French, Breton, Belgian, Bavarian, Swiss, Italian, Sicilian, Spanish) Russia, Roumania, Egypt, east Asia, japan, China, etc. While still secure in its binding and internally clean, there is wear and loss to the spine extremities and moderst wera at the outer tips; the front board gilt lettering is bringt but the spine lettering is dulled.
