Hardcover in dark tan "tweed" cloth lettered in black. 270 pp. Fine in bright, very good dust jacket, price clipped and bearing the Grosset imprint foot of spine, modest wear at the spine extremities and lower front panel edge.(Though they both carry only the 1950 date the Grosset reprint pre-dates the Walter J. Black edition.) Perry Mason wasn't quite sure just who his client was; was she alive or dead? Paul Drake couldn't decide if he was trailing suspects or leading the killer to his next victim.
