An anthology of short reminiscences of the Railway Mail Service. The RMS was a significant U.S, Mail service from the mid-19th to mid-20th centuries. The manager of the Chicago Post Office, George B. Armstrong, formulated the idea of the organized sorting of mail while while it was on route. It was officially inaugurated in 1869 and by the 1890s included trains made up entirely of specially made mail cars that would run on expedited schedules. Fine. Item #E30542
