Truman Speaks (first edition inscribed by Truman)

Truman Speaks (first edition inscribed by Truman)

New York: Columbia Univesity Press, 1960. First edition. Hardcover. First printing. BOLDLY INSCRIBED ON THE HALF TITLE PAGE "To Betty _____ with/kind regards/ 5/25/62 Harry Truman". Collection of lectures given by Truman at Columbia University from April 27-29, 1959; invited to speak to the studets at Columbia, these are transcripts of what he told them about the Presidency, the Consitiution, and demagoguery. The New York Times called the book "more poignant and human...that Truman's official memoirs" (thanks to Bauman Rare Books for the research). The book was evidently signed for the Betty ___ to whom it was inscribed and then given to her as a Christman gift from her father as there is an ownership inscription on the front free endpaper, "To Betty, with love / From Daddy, Christmas, 1963". The book is fine in the original dust jacket with minimal waer to the extremities and fading to the spine lettering. Fine / very good. Item #E29444
