This copy of the first trade edition has been signed on the front endpapers by 16 of the survivors of the disaster and also has the business card of Joseph W. Lippincott, Jr,. President of J.B. Lippincott Company with hsi notation"This copy has been autographed by each of the 16 survivors" and signed "Joe". fine in dust jacket with a couple small cloed tears to the edge sof the front panel and a longer tear to the rear panel. On October 13, 1972, Uruguyan Air Force Flight 571, a chartered flight aboard a Fairchild FH-227D aircraft, crashed in the Andes Mountains in Argentina at an altitude of nearly 12,000 feet due, it was later determined, to pilot error. The flight carried 45 passengers and crew members including 19 members of the Old Christians Club rugby union team. 12 persons were killed in the crash, several died later as a result of injuries, frigid temperatures, starvation and an avalanche. The remainder of the survivors were not rescued until more than two months after the crash; the 16 remaining persons has resorted to cannabalism to survive. Thier survival made world wide news. It was those 16 survivors who signed this extremely scarce copy of the book published by Lippincott in 1974. Fine / very good. Item #E28390
