Fourth Asian Dragon Boat Racing Championship commeorative book with special Dragon Year postage stamps from participating countries
(Shanghi, China): Fourth Asian Dragon Boat Racing Championships Organizing Committee, 2000. Hardcover. Square color illustrated hardcovers. Fine, bright example both inside and outside. In matching color millustrated slipcase. 32 pp. Text in Chinese on left-hand pages and in English on right-side. Each double page faetures a different participating country illustrated with color photography. Most interesting is that on the left-hand page for each county is a small clear pocket containing postage stamps from that nation; most are the specially issued "Dragon Year" stamps (though some are other issues where the country didn't issue Dragon Year stamps. For example, the Bangladesh page features two slightly different examples of the 1971 first stamp issued by that country). Apparently very scarce--we have not found any other copies from any sources. The participants were, China, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Burma, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Taiwan. China's annual Dragon Boat Festival, which featured this race, held to commorate Qu Yuan, Chinese poet who lived during the second anf third centuries BCE, and is held during the fifth month of the Chinese calendar year. Fine / none issued. Item #E28169
