Strikeout Story

New York: A.S. Barnes, 1947. First edition. Hardcover. First edition (no statement as is correct). Hardcover. 258 pp. Illustrated with photos. Fine in very good pictorial dust jacket. Cleveland Indians star pitcher and Baseball Hall of Famer Bob Feller offers this anecdote-filled autobiographical account. A native of Van Meter, Iowa, Feller debuted in 1936 as a teenager and quickly became noted for his blazing fastball, earning the nickname "Rapid Robert". He struck out 15 St. Louis Browns in his first game and 17 Athletics a month later--after the season he went back to high school. After leading the American League in wins three straight seasons (1939-41) and strikeouts four straight (1938-41) he missed the 1942, '42 and '44 seasons serving in the armed forces in World War II. He returned to again lead the league the wins in 1946 and 47 and strikeouts in 1946, 47 and 48. Feller died in 2010. Fine / very good. Item #E27404
