Frank "Home Run" Baker: Hall of Famer and World Series Hero (signed by the author)

Jefferson, NC: McFarland, 2006. First edition. Softcover. First printing softcover (not issued in hardcover). Signed by the author on the title page. Fine. 280 pp. with index. Illustrated with photographs. Biography of baseball Hall of Fame third baseman Frank "Home Run" Baker. One of the greatest stars of the so-called dead ball era. A native of Trappe, Maryland, Baker began his major league career with Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics in 1908. After sitting out the 1915 season in a salary dispute, he was traded to the New York Yankees, ending his career with them in 1922. Though he lad the American League in home runs in 1911, 1912, and 1913 (never amassing more than 12 in any one of those years), his nickname came from the 1911 World Series when he hit home runs in consecutive games off Rube Marquard and Christy Mathewson. Baker was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1955. Fine. Item #E26920
