One of the msot significant figures in Philadelphia basketball, Tom Gola led LaSalle College to the NIT in 1952 and the NCAA championship in 1954. He holds the NCAA record for most rebounds in a career. As a rookie professional, he helped the Philadelphia Warriors win the NBA championship in 1956. He was named an All Star five times before retiring in 1966. After his playing days were over, he went on to significant success as a coach and was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1976. The author based this biography not only on his exclusive 2013 interviews with Gola but also on anecdotes by such Philadelphia basketball figures as Jihn Chaney, Fran Dunphy, and Lionel Simmons.
