The 1860 Nassau Base Ball Nine (Princeton's first baseball team) is pictured, as is every baseball team and captain from 1862 through 1901.There are summaries of each season and boxscores of all the important games including those against famous professional teams in the 1860s and 1870s such as the Athletics of Philadelphia, the Excelsiors and Atlantics of Brooklyn and the Mutuals of New York. There is an extensive discussion on pp.99-100 of the game of October 23, 1874 vs. Philadelphia in which Arthur "Candy" Cummings demonstrated the curve ball, including an illustration of how a ball can be made to curve. Similar extensive coverage is given to football, with each team from 1872 through 1901 pictured. The work also covers gymnastics, crew, lacrosse and track with these teams pictured as well.
