Hardcover in gray cloth lettered in dark brown and decorated with pair of Japaneses figures. 460 pp. + one pade ads, index, appendix of sale prices from the 1882 Hamilton Palace auction and a later, undated American auction. Numerous half-tone illustrations and addiitonal engravings in the text. The second or "New edition" (first was 1911). Good or somewhat better, shaken and with wear at the spine extremities, two ownership signatures (1927 and 1958) on the hevily offset front free endpaper. An extensive early 20th century study of Japanese art. It covers early schools and painters, great painters of later centuries, bronzes, carved works in ivory and wood, lacquer and its master , armor and arms, woven silks, embroideries and tapestries, women's fashions and men's armor, the home, tea ceremonies and the temples, potter and porcelain, several "ware" styles, color prints, artists, their signatures on prints, etc. Good.
