A tight, fine example in the original dust jacket, very good with a chip to the upper edge of the front panel and two small chips to the outer head of the spine. 319 pp. Gilbert Wade, a short-tempered, hard-hitting New Yorker, inherits the possessions of methodical madman John Cathcart--chiefly seven blue diamonds of fabulous value with which Cathcart had been rewarded by a prince of India. Wade travels to a small Pennsylvania mountain town where Cathcart had kept a bungalow and immediately encounters sinister influences reaching out from the East--and the diamonds are missing.
