Originally written during the late 1920s and early 30s, the author's account of his investigation into the traffic in women of the Orient and its relation with the commerce in opium and other drugs. He "...lifts the faslehoods told in novels of the charming geisha girls and their less fortunate sisters, the Yoshiwara Juju girls,,,but shows that the life of horrible degradation that they lead 'is primarily due to the the teachings of Buddha and Confucius'..." in regards to women. He also further discusses the sex system of Japan in regards romantic love in the Occidental sense of the word. The work looks particularly at the cities of Yokohama, , Sinapore, Shangai, Hong Kong, Port Said, Macao, Lengthy appendix section provides exerpts from reports from various international organizations (such as the League of Nations) and various countries in reponse, regarding treatment of women and children in relation to the topic.
