Philadelphia: Schafer and Koradi, 1832. First edition. Hardcover. Slim 16 mo. (4 1/2" x 7") in hardcovers with tipped on paper titles and woodcuts fornt and rear, over brown muslin spine. Presumed first edition of this version, differing from a similar 1818 edition re: Luther woodcut on the front cover and Luther reference in the title. The front cover bears an image of Martin Luther seated at his desk writing in a book ith a Bible to his left; the rear cover bears an image of a rooster standing on a fence. 35 pp. Front pastedown has 24 small woodcust of animals with their names in German; the rear pastedown has the uppr and lower case alphabets in English letters as well as sets of numbers and roman numerals. Four 1/3-page woodcut illustrations in the text. The text is in fraktur typeface. An early "Pennsylvania Deutch" alphabet and grammar book for children.Some rubbing and even soiling to the cover labels, interior somewaht embrowned but complete and undamaged. Quite scarce.
