Why Hitler Came into Power. Theodore Abel.

Why Hitler Came into Power

Harvard University Press, 1986. Paperback. Softcovers. A tight, apparently unused copy but with foxing to the outer edges of the text block. xx+ 322 pp. with chronology, statistocal appendix, index. New introduction for this edition by Thomas Childers. Originally published in 1938. In 1934, Theodore Abel went to Germany and , under the auspices of Columbia University, offered a prize for autobiographies of members of the National Socialist movement . He received some 600 essays and they constitute the single best source on the grassroots opinion in the Nazi Party. This, the resulting book, has been curiously neglected but has never been surpassed. Among the inclusions are life histories of a worker, a soldier, , an anti-Semite, a middle-class youth, a farmer, a bank clerk--all of whom explain in their own words why they joined the NSDAP. Very Good. Item #E24800
