The first issue (Volume I, No.1, January, 1880) of this monthly journal offered with Vol. 1 No 6 (June 1880) and Vol. II No 1 (January, 1881). Vol. 1, No. 1 is very good, both wrappers present, some chipping along the spine strip. First inside page is a prospectus statement and order blank, then 52 pp. plus a 20-page section of advertisements at rear, many illustrated with engravings of denatl and medical equipment and supplies. Vol. 1 No 6. most of the spine strip lacking and similar section of adverts at rear; Vol II, No. 1 (the name has changed to "The Independent Practitioner.. and Hygenical Science" , some chipping about the edges of the front wrap and rear wrap lacking, advert section at rear as well. The various articles deal with subjects such as "Sexual Exhaustion (Neurasthenia)", diptheria, treatment of fractured jaws, "Yellow and Break-Bone Fevers", "Teeth, Pregnancy and Disease", Water--Its Relation to Heath and Disease", compressiona nd immobilization practices in surgery.
