Using the background of the murder investigation, the play explores the anger and resentment that African Americans have for one another and the ways in which they sometimes absorbed the racist attitudes of whites. The play opened in New York in 1981 and was revived in 1984, winning numerous awards including the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Basis for the 1984 film A Soldier's Story" Near Fine. Item #E24199
