Faulkner's "New Introduction By The Author" dated 1932. A tight, fine copy, small ownership signature top edge of front pastedown. In very good, .95-cent, second issue E. McKnight Kauffer design dust jacket with cigartett smoking man, 210 titles on verso of the jacket so, we believe, 1938. Originally published in 1931 (though according to Faulkner's introduction written three years before as ".. acheap idea, because it was deliberately conceived to make money.") a shocking and disturbing novel of the abduction and rape of Temple Drake, a Mississippi college girl. Faulkner wrote a sequel, "Requiem For A Nun" in 1951. The novel was the basis for a pre-code film, "The Story of Temple Drake" (1933 starring Miriam Hopkins as Drake) and again in 1961, under the original title, starring Lee Remick as Drake.
